The base plate that the main unit mounts to, which needs mounted to a building, pole, etc., is only designed to be mounted to a vertical surface, gravity holds the unit onto the plate, but not very well, if you push the power switch on without holding the unit down, it will be pushed upward and fall off the bracket, as I found out quickly. Mounting the solar panel should be easy, right? No, it was designed to be mounted and positioned toward the sun most easily if installed on a surface such as a roof, but if you want to mount it to a wall, the design of it makes it difficult to loosen the screws you need to loosen to swivel the panel around toward the sunshine. All in all, this product is a giant pain in the rear and not worth the money spent. Did I mention it uses large lithium ion rechargeable batteries like an e-cigarette uses, and that those batteries are expensive? Nothing simple with this product, everything is a hassle. Now I'm going out to screw a block of wood over the base of the unit so it can't simply be pushed up and off the base plate while using the power switch. Sigh. :( I'll have to remove this block of wood anytime the batteries need replaced, when they stop taking a charge. Oh, and as for how bright the lights are, think of shining an old style, non led flashlight in your face from 12" away, seems bright, right? Now shine the same flashlight in your face from 20 feet away, doesn't really do much besides give away the location of the flashlight, and not much else, well, that is how these lights work too. I have led light bulbs that I can't look at without being blinded, but you won't have that problem with these lights, you can stare right into them without any worries at all. Keep looking for a better light than what this one is, as I should have.
