Review on ⚡️ Schumacher Solar Charge Controller 12V - Optimize Lead-Acid Batteries and Solar Panel Performance by Edgardo Ennis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Maybe great value for money?

Original review - June 2014 After a bad experience with a competitor's battery tender, I used a Schumacher charge controller. The Battery Tender model was rapidly blinking amber indicating a charge controller malfunction. Revain gave me a full refund. I bought two Shumacher controllers. The first went into operation immediately and flawlessly. Please note that it includes connectors on the charger, the connectors are clearly labeled and the charger allows you to connect the battery, solar panel and load. It also features LED status indicators to help you with panel diagnostics and placement (it tells you when you have low or high sun orientation). I've also bought Sun Force solar chargers (which I like, but not quite as much as this one). The sun force 7a lasted two years and then had to be replaced. Review updated June 24, 2014. The second charge controller was used with a 50W panel (the charge controller is rated for 100W). I connected it to a full solar panel and none of the lights on the charge controller came on. I plugged it in and checked the wiring. The charge controller started smoking, smoke came out of the block's wire exit hole. I took the controller and it burned my hand. I unplugged all the cables and Amazon agreed to trade it in. Since I like the design, I will try again.

Pros
  • Robust workmanship
Cons
  • I don't like it that much, it's ok
