Reverse polarity for energy regulator

I wanted this to be a cheap, small, simple regulator for expensive Schumacher flexible panels for charging infrequently used vehicles. It never worked with them or the 100w Renogy panel until we reversed the polarity of the solar and battery connections. The amount of bug fixes didn't justify the savings over the Junior 10A controller, which is at least properly labeled.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Legacy model

Useful for solar panels without built in voltage regulators

I use this with a 12v 2.4w solar panel to keep the RV engine battery charged when in storage. The solar panel didn't have a built-in controller, so they bought one to make sure the voltage was checked before getting to the battery. It is plugged into the cigarette lighter socket and then the solar panel is connected to it. Works very well. The battery remains charged.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Nothing

Pay attention to the polarity of the plugs.

Like the others, I had to change the polarity of the connector to match the solar panel. Not sure what Schumacher was thinking as the instructions even show the reverse connection of the SAE. (Black on + Red on -) Thank goodness screws were used to assemble the case. I suspect some of the negative reviews are due to not paying attention to polarity and assuming the SAE connectors for their solar panel were properly soldered to the PCB.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Damaged

One of the BAD.

I think I waited too long to return or exchange. I thought the problem was my solar panel or cigarette wire; but I ended up troubleshooting the entire system with a volt ohm meter and the controller box does not work with reversed internal polarity as several other reviewers have rightly pointed out. I've been a Schumacher customer for many years and I'm very disappointed. I'd happily exchange it for a working one if they know that batch is bad and the problem has been fixed. is anyone…

lasted 2 weeks. - Solar and wind power

For those new to solar panels and charge controllers, not all panels have the same polarity. There is no industry standard. Each brand decides for itself which way to go and makes accessories for its panel. For example, a Coleman solar panel accessory may not work with a Schumacher accessory. This Schumacher charge controller has an easy way to deal with this: if the polarity is reversed for your particular panel, simply unscrew the back and swap your chosen pins. A $10 40W soldering iron will…

Maybe great value for money?

Original review - June 2014 After a bad experience with a competitor's battery tender, I used a Schumacher charge controller. The Battery Tender model was rapidly blinking amber indicating a charge controller malfunction. Revain gave me a full refund. I bought two Shumacher controllers. The first went into operation immediately and flawlessly. Please note that it includes connectors on the charger, the connectors are clearly labeled and the charger allows you to connect the battery, solar panel

Pros
  • Robust workmanship
Cons
  • I don't like it that much, it's ok

Need something like this for those small, low amperage solar panels

I ride my bike to and from work almost every day but need access to a vehicle if I need to meet clients in another city or avoid road hazards My route due to bad weather. Accordingly, I park my 2000 Odyssey at work. Unfortunately the battery slowly drains when the car is not running and on several occasions I have needed a jump start. sockets. However, I didn't research enough. It turns out that this particular solar panel allows current to flow from the battery in the opposite direction at…
