Gets rough and rusty

I was looking for a bathroom shelf and I liked the look and functionality. After unboxing and testing, I found it wouldn't fit in a wine glass, so I decided to use a saw and widen the slot. The success was short lived as I discovered the curved area for the glass was now uneven causing my glass to fall and fall into the tub. Joy. The metal fixings are confusing, I had to check the photos on Amazon, is the smallest metal bar supposed to hold a washcloth? I'm still not sure. And if you don't want the caddy to sit high and unbalanced, another option is low and in the tub. When the tub is nice and full, which I like, the water hits the bottom of the basket and the holes for the metal extensions fill with water. Very rude. I ended up taking out the two extensions after each use and letting the container air dry outside of the bathroom. Still rusty. Metal was penetrating rusty bamboo everywhere. Less than 6 months later I decided to buy a new one. This review is an update on the second caddy. No matter what I do, it rusts. All grooves and drain holes and anywhere dirt can collect. I don't know if the wood is decomposing or something, but I just cleaned the drain holes and they were absolutely gross. After several thorough cleanings and struggling not to dry out after use, this item is just as rough and rusty as the first one I bought. I'm going to throw that away and invest in acrylic as I originally wanted.
