Our old hard worker Kohler was working non stop making all sorts of interesting noises. When we were able to determine that the ball valve wasn't the problem (which is a common suspicion in such cases) we called Kohler customer service and we were fortunate to have a great representative who helped us resolve the issue . or determine the cause of the problem. It turned out that the fill valve eventually died of old age and had to be replaced. The representative gave me the part number. Kohler could have shipped it, but delivery would have taken anywhere from a week to 10 days, too long for a leaky toilet. Not available at major hardware stores, the rep gave me the names of a few local plumbing supply companies that sell Kohler parts. After checking availability and pricing, three calls later I settled on Revain, which had the cheapest price and of course free Prime shipping, not to mention next day delivery. A win-win situation. After receiving the part the next day, we went to the Kohler website and watched a very detailed and easy to understand installation video. We encountered a few stumbling blocks along the way - mainly due to the difficulty of turning off the water supply (the old feed handle that was stuck) and then removing the old fill valve (the connector nut was also stuck), but we got the job in about a half Hour done - which would cost at least $100 for a home plumbing visit. If you have an old Kohler toilet that is leaking, runs continuously, or is making strange noises and you cannot determine the cause, turn off the water supply and call a Kohler service center. They will walk you through trying to fix the problem or direct you to one of their helpful online videos that will guide you through each step. If it turns out you need a replacement part they can give you a part number and you can then buy it like we did. Revain convinces with the price as well as the free and fast shipping. Much luck!
