Review on Red Kaito KA500IP Voyager Solar/Dynamo AM/FM/SW NOAA Weather Radio with Alert and Cell Phone Charger by Victor Hurvitz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Designed for short people, not Americans

I had this Kaito KA500 for a short time and was trying to find reasons NOT to return it. Let me start with the controls to select radio band, source power, on/off, etc. Not only are the controls very small, but the stamped-in instructions for selecting your choice are REALLY SMALL, difficult to read and use. Today I put in three AA batteries and found that it would be impossible to put the batteries in without something holding them in place. The Chinese engineers who designed and built this radio apparently didn't have American AA batteries. I have tried the handle and charger but so far the built in batteries in the radio have not held a charge for more than 45 minutes. Again, I start from the beginning by charging the batteries at the socket. I haven't connected the radio to my computer to charge, I haven't tried using a solar charger or charging my phone with batteries in the radio, but I wouldn't have high hopes for reliable charging from this NOAA Solar/Dynamo AM/FM/ HF weather radio with warning function and mobile phone charging. Switching to an AM/FM station is difficult because the station search is not aligned exactly where the station should be. This radio only receives the strongest stations. It can come back to Revain if the second battery doesn't last. The speaker is just average, the radio is drastically overpriced for the product I received.
