These shorts are SO good to wear under school dresses. Some of our other underwear bike shorts are really short and just look a bit like underwear. They're a good length so you can really tell she's wearing shorts. They are long enough to be worn separately as shorts. They are so soft and comfy and hold up well in the wash, I would say they are a bit big especially as they are longer than I expected but they fit her now and I expect they will fit for that long become as stretchy as they are and slightly shorter which is normal given the length they are now. I love that you can pair them with a dress that's too short due to the growth spurt and show them off underneath like it's a complete set.
