I read that this product can be very dusty in a small carp pond so I rinsed it out very very well. I then placed the media bag in a perforated plastic tray on top of the biofiltration media. It seemed a little dusty at first, but after a few hours the water cleared up. After 24 hours, after adding the 55 gallon drum biofilter, the water is still stabilizing but looking good. It's a charcoal I've never worked with before. I have a large bag of more traditional media and a dozen media packs on the go. At the same time, I don't see any harm in it, but I believe it will work more effectively in a canister with a post-filter setting than my more informal biofilter.
