Don't oversize the trailer cable, also check the converter

This device makes it easy to connect an existing cable to a new plug, but does not increase the length of the trailer cable. The device prefers the standard 18 gauge but can handle a slightly heavier 16g as seen on the ground wire. Recommend a bolt-on mount to the trailer tongue for a secure fit. (There are holes but no bolts.) Also, be sure to fill the inside of the unit with the supplied dielectric grease to prevent corrosion. The LED indicators will immediately report power to the trailer lights but will not tell you if the trailer lights are burned out or not working. It just checks if the power supply on the back is correct. (Troubleshooting: If the trailer LEDs and lights are behaving strangely, such as one light on and the other flashing, it may be a converter used on foreign cars. Use jumper wires and a 12v Battery, connect each of the 4 wires to the trailer through one. Also don't forget the ground wire. If all the headlights work, that's the converter. (The turn signals don't flash on this test, but get brighter) Often the converter will do what you do intermittently more causes heartache! still not working, make sure you have a ground connection, bad ground can also cause all sorts of oddities.)
