Brown color preserved. It looks great in our white SUV with black interior. The brown color doesn't look too hot in the sun and hides dirt and grime well. It's surprisingly waterproof! The dogs got a little dirty drinking the water from behind. I thought it would soak in and evaporate so I didn't wipe it off. When I came back 4 hours later, the water had collected in a small pool. I wiped it off with a paper towel and it didn't look like anything had been absorbed at all. We use it on the front seat headrests and the second row headrests and it works great in both cases if you fold the mat under you. You can leave it attached to the folded second row seats and use it as a trunk lid. Anchors are good for holding it in place if you have a burrowing dog. I wish there was a way to adjust the anchors down to where they attach. The shortest length of anchor straps is about 1.5 feet. But honestly, at $40+ it's hard to beat. Get a tan whatever your salon color, it hides hair and dirt much better than black.
