My living room is poorly lit and I'm used to a 250w halogen task light as a temporary solution. Well, power consumption, heating and frequent lamp changes were a chore. Having not yet decided on a permanent lighting solution, I needed something bright enough to illuminate my living room tasks, which required a lot of computer time and sorting through paper and records. This product was cheap and shipped quickly. I can live with that, but I have two main complaints. Firstly, it is not equivalent to a 250w halogen worklight. Yes, it's bright, but even with the color temperature, some parts of my workspace aren't as visible as my previous true halogen bulb, even in the same configuration, with it standing at an upward angle on a bookshelf. Ceiling. I literally replaced a real 250 watt incandescent bulb with this LED bulb, so I have a good idea of what the "250 watt equivalent" should be. Second, the flickering of the LED is very noticeable. Every movement in my field of view has a strobe effect. watch the video A dog's tail is a small example of how anything that moves, even much slower than a happy tail, looks like a monitor with a slow frame rate. Whether it's directly in focus or in peripheral vision, it's really annoying after looking at documents for a few minutes, but it's actually a little painful after longer reading/paper-sorting sessions. Miscellaneous: The hex nuts are so tight that rotating the flashlight can bend the frame if you don't support it properly. Be careful. And they're hexagonal, so most people aren't very comfortable adjusting them. Conclusion: inexpensive, does its job with a long cable, but can strain your eyes when doing specific tasks. I ended up placing a standard 100W LED lightbulb closer to my papers to "blur" the flickering light. I still use this as a general living room light when I'm moving and not trying to focus on an area, but I always see that flash out of the corner of my eye with any movement. It's possible to survive for a few hours, but this is one of those things that, once you realize it, will be hard to ignore! For my next purchase I will be looking for a flicker free LED work light (if possible) and I will be buying much more than the advertised equivalent wattage to ensure I am getting enough light.
