Great solution for moving fence posts

I had a metal fence and gate installed earlier this year. The problem is that our South Texas soil is pure clay debris, so the soil heaves and compresses with rain, or lack thereof. It's not much, but it's enough that many gate locks, especially gravity locks, won't work. Gravity latches allow for virtually no tolerances - if the side of the post latch is even 1/4 inch higher or lower than the "V" on the other side of the latch, it will not close or stay closed. This latch has a total horizontal adjustment of about 1 inch. There is about 1/2 inch in the magnetic portion of the latch that accommodates the kickstand - this area is oval so it can accommodate some movement. The magnetic part then also has slotted screw holes allowing for a further 1/2 inch of adjustment. The only downside, if you want to call it that, is that the distance between the fence post and the gate post is only 3/8 inch on this unit. Of course it wasn't. So you need to mount both sides of the latch with a little protrusion. Other than that, this is a great device.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Not all good
