As long as you're pointing in the general direction of your drone, these things really work! However, it's probably important to note that while they improve the range from the remote control to the drone when you're looking at it, when the drone is behind you the range is greatly reduced. To explain this better, your antennas work by broadcasting a signal around you. (imagine a sphere with you in the middle). Without this booster, your drone will have pretty much the same range whether it's in front of you, behind you, or directly overhead. You probably got it. Now when you turn on this booster it will take the signal surrounding you and fire it forward, giving you a more powerful beam forward instead of a bullet around you. Keep that in mind and you're set. - If you have problems during the flight, aim at the drone, get close to it and of course, if all else fails, remove the booster.
