HIDDEN surcharge after sending 10GB framed photo; Email from 12/07/2020

I'm a tech savvy millennial and I'm buying this for my less tech savvy Boomer parents. If you're like me, the ideal digital photo frame is right up your alley: > You can set this thing up and walk away from it knowing it will work without further intervention > It's easy for family members to add photos to the frame. The Achilles' heel of this shot is that it's fighting for those points. First, there's a little-known limit to the amount of data you can send per frame. I'm not talking about the device's internal storage, which is clearly limited. I'm talking about using the "OurPhoto" app to send photos. When you buy a frame, you get 10 GB of "traffic dataโ€ for free. This means that after sending 10GB of data per frame, you'll have to shell out at least $10 for an additional 10GB. 10 GB is really about 2000 photos of sufficient quality to look really nice in the frame. If you possibly add a few family members to the framework, you will reach your limits and have to buy more storage space. Some kind of crap. I wish I knew. Now you know. Second, one of the features that made me want to use this frame was the ability to set up a unique email address for the frame and just send photos to that email address. That way you don't need a stupid app on your phone (the OurPhoto app isn't very well designed by the way), you and your parents' friends can just send emails and the photos will appear. But in two weeks of setting up and fiddling with this frame, I've only received one email to actually get to the frame. I called tech support and they told me about their scenario (of course the call center you get isn't really the company that made the device, it's an outsourced call center that can do a bit more than you are told read troubleshooting pages of the manual). None of their tricks worked. Why? Probably (I'm guessing here) because Dragon Touch is having network/server issues in China, and for reasons beyond my control, this feature isn't working right now (12/7/2020). Perhaps the Christmas shopping rush has overwhelmed their options. They'll probably fix this at some point in the future, but for now this method doesn't work and there's nothing I can do about it (apart from writing this honest review and considering a return). If you don't care about getting more money for sending photos to YOUR picture frame and you think they will eventually solve your email problems, this picture frame isn't so bad. It has a decent screen and I like the look of the frame and matte panel rather than the look of a tablet on a stand like other photo frames. However, the frame feels plasticky and cheaper than it costs. A remote control wouldn't hurt either, so as not to constantly stain the glass.

Pros
  • Easy to set up and use: The user-friendly interface design makes it easy to use for all ages. Just a few steps to complete setup and the intuitive touchscreen makes it much easier to use than ever.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
