To begin, this glass will not be able to replace any fixes! Despite the fact that for such a price, you can purchase fixes from the D series in all focal lengths and receive the highest quality, this glass will not be able to do so. Second, the weight of this lens is just not justified by the quality of the image that it produces, and this is true even when taking into account that there is no protection against dust or moisture. Thirdly, the design of this glass does not even resemble, but rather copies, the design of the same whale 18-55, which is not a plus. Not to mention the fact that the trunk of the lens spontaneously rolls back when the glass is lightly touched and shaken, which is simply unthinkable for prices as high as these. Fourthly, even though this glass is meant to be used for journalism, it is of poor quality because it is very flimsy and, one again, it is not protected from the elements. Fifth, what struck me the most was the terrible and wild distortion, which is not corrected by the lens profiles in Lightroom, and oftentimes manual correction at 24-35mm does not even help. This is the aspect that has left the most lasting impression on me. To summarize all of this, I would want to argue that this glass was created more for what it would be than for the actual benefits that would come from using it. Purchasing this glass would be a waste of money because you could get a complete set of fixes from the D series or a single good fix from the G series for the same price. But if you do decide to go through with it, you can take solace in the fact that the glass actually has very good color reproduction, sharpness (for zoom), and it simply holds backlight beautifully. If you do decide to go through with it, you can console yourself with the knowledge that. By the way, considering the severe distortion and vignetting that this lens produces when stopped down to 2.8, it is recommended that you purchase it for crop mode. P.S. I have purchased the Nikon D800 P.S.S. I have no plans to sell it. Even with all the minuses, I would buy it a second time, but only in addition to 2-3 fixes of the same focal lengths, and not as the only or second lens covering these focal lengths.
