At least two people are required for assembly. Assembly requires the side bars to interlock, but they weren't built for a seamless connection, I almost returned them because they seemed impossible to put together. I finally managed to get them together by oiling them up and slapping the floor a few times (the color of their innards changed slightly). Some of the screws were stripped and I was having a really hard time tightening them with a bunch of other tools. This wasn't my first building experience and I consider myself fairly experienced at assembling things like this. The overall look is solid and beautiful (meets expectations) but not worth the complicated assembly process.
