Star Island or Skink were the last novels I read by Carl Hiaasen. I can't remember exactly when that was. Up to this point I had read all of his novels as soon as they came out, starting with the tourist season, and became an avid fan. It hasn't lost popularity that much. It's just that I stopped reading or changed the genre and essence of what attracted my time. Then I remembered in a flash, "What Karl was up to." Razor Girl seemed like a better choice than Bad Monkey, so here I am. The story grabbed me a bit as many of the actors were introduced as quickly as possible. I trudged on and as soon as they seemed to sort themselves in or out the story settled down and I really enjoyed the wild comedy and the interplay of about a dozen characters. The cheerful Mansfield as Razor Girl seemed like a fashionable girl that you would be lucky enough to meet. I love the action, everything is in the keys, and the ex-cop is looking for his badge back. I wouldn't consider it a return to the pentagram but rather a worthy release worthy of my time and investment. You can't hit 100% on every walk, but it brought positive smiles. I really like the couple Yancey and Merry. Plus the backdrop of a band of Wisconsin brothers transitioning from Cajun music to a chicken coop reality show. Enjoy.
