Review on 📍 Magellan RoadMate 1470: Reliable 4.7-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator by Adam Jackson

I have 1470 less than a week old and I have updated it to the latest firmware version 2.05 release 3. Despite the update, I had the following problems: 1. Incompetent technical support : a . When I received a call to update me on the address and navigation issue, the technician assured me that since Magellan had the serial number of my unit, the issues would be fixed automatically on their network. I don't see how the problems can be fixed without repairing the firmware or updating it by connecting it to a computer. b. The next step was to submit a request to tech support. After 3 days came the answer how to download and install firmware version 2.05, release 6. There is no release 6.2. Rattling noise.3. The volume is not normalized: different volume for different keys and different navigation segments.4. The correct street name could not be saved in the address list. The address was entered as nnnn University Drive, Menlo Park, CA. It was saved in the address list and address book as nnnn CA-109, Menlo Park, CA. There is no State Highway 109 in Menlo Park or even in California. The address of Filoli Gardens, a famous tourist destination in California, could not be registered. If the correct address for Filoli Gardens was entered as 86 Canada Rd, Woodside, CA, it was saved as 800 Canada Rd in the address list.6. Does not steer a tack even if the tack option is enabled.7. Wrong routing with "fastest" selected. He failed to direct the left turn at the traffic light intersection and the left turn lane to his destination. Instead, the recommendation was to continue down El Camino Real for another 0.5 to 0.4 miles to the next intersection. A legal U-turn is possible at this intersection, but the unit prefers to take an L turn, then an R turn into the lane to go around the 360 and head back to the El Camino Real.8 . There is no simulation mode as in 1412. As shown in the hidden menu, simulation mode is disabled. I also had 1412 but I had no problems from #3 to #7. This unit has been out of service for a year due to freezing and rebooting on certain routes. The 1470 has some nice new features like "one-touch" and a wider screen, but addressing and navigation flaws make it a recommendable GPS unit. Tech support was polite but didn't offer a helpful solution.
