Great entry-level GPS but lacks some features

I got the 1470 and did a thorough but honest test (600 mile drive) last weekend. It performed well all the advertised features as described. The large screen is easy to use, and the instructions are concise, informative, and easy to follow. He got me where I wanted to go very quickly - in the quickest way and on the fewest highways! I was impressed. (I also bought a traffic alert but have never been in a restricted area so no comment on that.) As this is an entry level GPS there are a fewโ€ฆ

The best GPS we've ever had!

After trying tom toms and Garmin we bought a Magellan RoadMate 1470 and it has been working fine for quite some time. So we ordered another one a few days ago - the same model. in the vehicle, plugged it in and it turned on right away - it took about 3 minutes or less to figure out where it was and what time zone we were in. In other words, it was working within minutes out of the box. It has a few different features that the other didn't have, but we've only been in business for a short timeโ€ฆ

  • This is great

  • Definitely a bad product

Nice for the price.

This is the first new GPS navigator I've bought since my Mio C310X a few years ago, which I've been happy with. Now that Mitac owns Magellan and after reading the reviews I decided to give the 1470 a try I was not disappointed. The RoadMate 1470 is as thin as it gets and has a screen that pleases my aging eyes and is viewable in almost any light. They changed the mounting system so that the power cord can be connected before it is placed in the mount. The lady's voice is clear and pronouncesโ€ฆ

  • Easy to read control panel

  • Broadly ok, but...

Numerous firmware bugs and poor technical support

I have 1470 less than a week old and I have updated it to the latest firmware version 2.05 release 3. Despite the update, I had the following problems: 1. Incompetent technical support : a . When I received a call to update me on the address and navigation issue, the technician assured me that since Magellan had the serial number of my unit, the issues would be fixed automatically on their network. I don't see how the problems can be fixed without repairing the firmware or updating it byโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • No automatic

It's good, not great.

April 7, 2009 - Magellan 1470 GPS ordered from Revain. My guess is that Magellan will be the best GPS I've ever had. I have an IWAY 250c and it works great. I wanted one that says the name of the street instead of just saying "Turn on CT168" or "Turn on the street". So I took the plunge with the next generation of GPS. April 8th 2009 - went to the website to see if it had shipped and he told me it hadn't but it was supposed to arrive on the 13th. April 9, 2009 - I received an email from Revainโ€ฆ
