The rubber base on the risers has a strong odor that will not fade. I washed them with dish soap and they are out now but I doubt the smell will go away. It smells similar to a new car tire, only more intense in such a small piece. In doing so, it looks like it will raise the bed by about three inches. I will try to paint the outer layer with acrylic paint to seal it. I hope the butt on the floor takes care of the rest. This is the only size I've found that fits a 3 inch square foot. If I had known about the smell I would have kept looking! To update. I got a message from the seller telling me to leave the risers outside for 12 hours to let the smell dissipate. I left them overnight, well over 12 hours, and they still smelled just as bad. I painted the sides with acrylics (I'm an artist) and after placing them under the bed the underside of the rubber base was "sealed" to the floor. Finally got the smell taken care of.
