Review on 🔧 DORMAN 912-010 Hood Release Cable: Black - Reliable and Functional by Jim Agosta

I had to buy this item twice which is partly my fault. The hood release cable broke the day I bought my '96 Civic from a family friend in January. I bought this item as a replacement almost immediately afterwards, but I've postponed it until a warmer day to get the job done. Since mine broke I couldn't just pull the cable by hand to open the hood - I had to remove the front grille and then unscrew the hood latch to even open the hood (and I don't have a garage). I did an exchange and in the end when I attached a new one to the latch it broke just like the original! I find that the piece of plastic that slides in and attaches the cable to the latch becomes very brittle at low temperatures. At this time, it's been too long to return for a refund or a replacement. I was waiting for the weather to get warmer to try this work again, so I had to buy a second one. A plastic part that appears to break easily may instead be aluminum and not break. Honda parts told me they were modified from the original part but couldn't confirm if that plastic part had been changed to a stronger material so I ended up going with the cheapest option again - it was Dorman. 3 stars because "everything is fine". For the low price I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could.
