This is the second branded bandage I have purchased. Turns out I had a cyst. But he needed/needs compression and the same kind of stabilization that is needed in the carpal tunnel. The design of this bracket is excellent. It starts with a non-removable iron stabilizer that runs along the bottom of the wrist. This insert is at least 2 inches wide compared to some other braces which are only about 3/4 inch wide. In my opinion, a wider bar means more stabilization. When putting it on: The first step is to wrap the orthosis around your wrist. A thick Velcro strap runs from top to bottom. Unlike the other bandage I tried, it had an elastic material and then two Velcro straps. The entire brace is tightened evenly to provide adequate support. Step 2 is to pass the band through your thumb and forefinger, which prevents you from bending your wrist down. It closes with Velcro so you can control how much you want to give. The other orthosis did not have an adjustable thumb and index finger support. It depended on a curved iron stabilizer that rose higher on your arm. I liked the concept of the strap. The third step is you have an extra 3 inch wide strap that you tighten for extra support. This bandage was better than the bandage I paid $25 for at my local drugstore. As for sizes. Go for size. I measured myself at around 8 inches, borderline for a medium to large size. And went with a big one. It's a little stretched out, but still pretty good. I think I could go with the medium. It all depends on what you are looking for. If compression is most important, then reduce it when you're nervous. If the focus is on portability and flexibility, then you can go further when you're at the limit. Just understand that if you choose a smaller size, you may need a day to stretch it. If you are in the size center, you can buy the prescribed size. Yes, I took a tape measure and measured my wrist. I measured about an inch under the arm where the wrist bones are. This wrist brace does the job really well. Excellent compression and excellent stabilization. This is a cheaper product probably because it is not well known in the market, it offers the quality and usefulness of other products that cost twice as much. Sometimes you get more than you pay for.
