I opened the box and saw a selection of replacement parts. In my case I didn't need them. I decided to install my filter in the basement where I installed a check valve. First I installed the bracket. Simply screw into the floor beam with a cordless drill and you're done. Turned off my shut off valve and cut the existing plastic pipe that supplies water to the fridge. Insert the water supply line into the inside of the filter. I took a bucket and turned on the faucet to clean the filter. Had to do this a second time because my bucket only holds about 2 gallons. I then routed a hose from the fridge to the filter outlet. I turned on the valve and checked for leaks, there weren't any. I emptied the ice bucket and let the ice maker do its job. Since I couldn't rid the line to the ice maker of unfiltered water, I threw away the first three servings of ice. Tried the 2nd round and it was much better but the flavor was still a bit off. My wife tried the 4th round and said it was way better than it was. I'm pretty sure a few more rounds to completely remove the old water from the system and possibly the filter and it will do the trick. So far the experience has been pleasant, easy installation, promising results and a happy wife.
