Large air filter for more space

Carrier XL Air Purifiers Over the past few months I have installed medium sized HEPA air purifiers in both of my bedrooms. My roommate and I noticed significant improvements in air quality in both rooms. We have a dust problem here and a lot of sneezing. I got the opportunity to test this great Carrier air purifier and I jumped at the chance. It can handle 550 feet of space, which is about the size of my combined dining and living area. I knew where to put it as soon as I saw the size. I have a corner next to the sideboard and the kitchen door. There is power there, and it has not been used for something that cannot be removed. So I decided to install it. It's a big, heavy box and most of the weight is on the device. Because only two pieces of styrofoam hold it together in the box. It arrived in perfect condition, even with a few bruises on the outer box. I opened the large box secured with staples and pulled out the air purifier. The instructions were helpful on how to open it to remove the filter and remove the plastic bag around the filter and then reinstall it. The odd choice I came across during the prep phase was that it had feet installed that had to be removed to install the included and optional casters. The reels don't have a locking mechanism, which is fairly typical, so the reels help you change the filter by making it easier to rotate to reach it. They damage it in an earthquake or when children fall into it. I chose the casters, removed the legs and installed the casters. The roller lock would eliminate this step and simplify setup. Considering the weight and general awkwardness of the move, the installation by changing rollers took about an hour. It was a lot easier to set up. I plugged it in, turned it on and hit auto. I raise the screen for better visibility as it lights up with colors and the word "Auto". I didn't need any instructions to run it, they will show me more details about the operation later. What annoyed me was the references to Wi-Fi and Smart Control, but NOT on this very expensive device. I have a $99 bedroom air purifier from another company with Alexa control. It can tell you the status of the filter, as well as the performance and speed features. It doesn't have a remote control or smart features, which is a huge gap at this price point. It will lose a star for that omission, it's 2021, no excuses. As far as it works, it seems to be doing its job. It's super quiet in auto mode and pretty damn near silent when I touch the sleep switch. The cost of replacing the filter is approximately $120 directly from Carrier. Hopefully it will be available from Revain at a better price in the future. It should take about a year, but time will tell and every home is different. You can vacuum it regularly to remove surface dirt and keep it in working order. While I like the modern look and understand that the size is necessary for the square footage it covers, I wish it had smart features. The modern look belies the non-modern way of working. If you have the space to put it and are okay with the lack of smart controls, this is a solid choice. Update 8/10/21 After a few months of use. It does a very good job and I'm upgrading it to 4 stars, holding back 1 star for the lack of connectivity at this price point.
