great quick Belgian waffles; Retractable plates - easy to prepare other foods

I am very happy with this waffle maker. I've spent a lot of time looking at different waffle irons. I wanted to buy one for my husband as he sometimes wants waffles. I'm not usually a fan of waffles, but I've found that I like the Belgian style. So when I started looking for a waffle maker for him I was convinced it could make the thicker Belgian style that I like. There are so many waffle makers out there and reviews are everywhere. I stopped thinking I could get something for less than $20 and looked at hundreds of offers. I've searched so hard and for so long that I thought about giving up. At some point on my mission, I found this Cuisinart waffle maker. I've always liked this brand and loved features like: Removable plates use not only for making waffles, additional plates (replace two waffle plates with one flat and one flat/round for eggs, sausages, sandwiches) Belgian waffles stylish plates with deep grooves The product video helped me see how it works which influenced my final purchase decision. It's basically a breakfast station! My main interest was making waffles, so at first I wasn't even drawn to the added functionality. I read all the reviews - all mixed up again, like everyone else - and gave up looking further for a while. I came back to this because again I was happy with everything I have from Cuisinart. I liked the overall look of it and that it was easy to store. I also decided that I liked the extra panels and that there was no need to flip or rotate the machine. It cost more ($72) than I originally planned, but everything about this device seemed worth it if it worked. We love "breakfast" anytime, so I knew it would be used not only for waffles, but also for pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Also, I started looking for recipes that went beyond breakfast items that use a waffle iron, and the size and style seemed conducive to trying out all sorts of flavorful recipes. SALE! Well how it happened. First, how the waffles turn out depends heavily on the cook. My husband makes perfect Belgian waffles every time. ME? they drop out. OK. I'm so glad I wasn't the only one testing this as I figured the machine was to blame. No, I. I swear I do whatever he does but he does it better every time. THAT ALSO looks good to me. It has multiple heat settings, just read the manual for more instructions. I don't think it takes them long to make them. We've done several in a short amount of time. Nothing seemed unusual. The waffles were evenly cooked and always came out good. We use Krusteaz brand Belgian waffle mix every time - not sure if that matters or not. The plates slide out when needed for easy cleaning (I usually just wipe with a damp cloth). I can store the device vertically or horizontally. Doesn't take up much closet space, which is great. Compact is just a square. Nothing sticks out, which is strange. If you like home appliances on the counter, this is nice to look at. When we make waffles, we don't usually make pancakes. When making pancakes I'm usually used to using a different type of pan BUT it's really nice as it heats up quickly, doesn't stick and just fun to use one unit. The round part is for dough, eggs, etc., then the top flat part is pressed. It's still mainly used for waffles, but I'm very happy with this waffle maker. Especially if the husband makes waffles. The more we use, the happier I am with this purchase. 5 stars for now. If I learn something new, good or bad, I'll come back to update it.
