Failed! A leak! for dry bags

Bought for a trip to Thailand hoping to take photos while snorkeling. Tested them in the sink with a tissue according to the instructions and they seemed dry. First we dived around the beautiful islands in the Andaman Sea and as we emerged from the water we noticed a small puddle of water around the phone. We were in the water probably less than 10 or 15 minutes and didn't dive at all, just snorkeled on the surface. The good news is that we have the Galaxy S9, which is said to be waterproof. The bad news is, if you read the fine print, it's only suitable for freshwater. Of course, our phones didn't charge when wet, they had to be rinsed with fresh water, and even then they had trouble charging. I rinsed out the "waterproof" bags with salt water and decided to see if I could spot the leaks; filled it with water, sealed the overly bulky seal and gently squeezed it out. There are no leaks around the seal, but there is at least one hole molded in clear plastic around each one. Extremely disappointed; Expect salt water to shorten the lifespan of our very expensive phones. The pictures we took were practically useless. Couldn't see the fish; they were colorless, and clear water did not look clear in photographs; The videos were a bit better - at least you could find the fish based on the traffic. Half the photos were with our tubes as our wet phones went into selfie mode. My advice: use Ziplock; I would trust him more! Better yet, leave your phone in the boat's zip and just enjoy what you see. Thought the cases might be a bit handy as a splash guard on a boat but the seal is so hard to use and the phone so hard to get that they don't really work for anything. Since Revane's return window is closed during our trip I can't even get my money back!

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
