PITA mounting system, works well after a headache

Honestly, I build a lot of machines. This has to be the most annoying mounting system I've ever seen. AIO water blocks are a country mile easier to install than this thing. Discover the directions first and delve into their intricacies. Then take out the bags with the unmarked parts and try to match them according to the given instructions. There's more than you need, no matter what type of nest you have. Spend 20 minutes figuring out which pieces go where, and then repeat if you find the pin is in the wrong spot held in place by the plastic clip. The end result will look like you assembled it on site from spare parts. Now take the damn thing apart so you can attach it to the motherboard since the screws will be hidden by the fan. Enjoy the fan clips, they suck. Let it dry before removing the paper from the heatsink base and let everything dry before applying thermal paste. Don't over-tighten the weird double ended hex nuts if you're using an AM4 socket, as they want to clamp the board right where it connects to the RAM. Apply more thermal paste than you think you'll have to get each screw to grip before tightening, trust me. This is where you'll notice less paste being squeezed out around the CPU than you'd expect. Once that's all done, you'll need to reinstall the clip fan, which is fun since you have to install both at the same time. keeps the fan in place. When all is done, you end up with a damn quiet, air-cooled system that's slightly better than the Wraith Prism and definitely better than the Wraith Stealth. FWIW I would go for a cheap AIO or a high end air system if you really need good cooling. Install this on the board before placing the board in the case or I expect you to go insane. There are better options, but it's cheap and once you install it the headache is gone and it works well. 3/5

Pros
  • Smart anti-lock fan sensor: never worry about your cables getting tangled or your components breaking again
Cons
  • Nothing
