First I was looking for a replacement for the Dapperlin strap. One of the buckles was broken. The Drapperlin buckle was similar to this buckle except the belt had no lever or ratchet recess. To release the buckle you simply had to lift the back of the buckle and it would come loose. Unfortunately, the rubber part that did the job has come loose. and the buckle was no longer used. As for this belt, I've read some critical reviews and can't help but wonder. First, pushing the lever to release the buckle should be extremely easy after about 1 day. In the second review I read that the material of the belt was plastic. Looks like the strap isn't 100% leather. Looks like some sort of substance, probably dense foam sandwiched between two pieces of leather I suspect. The connection is incredibly close. When I cut the strap to fit, I tried separating the pieces on the cut piece and couldn't. One of the reasons it's 3 stars instead of 4 is that if you need to cut the strap to length you have to punch a hole for the screw. In my case I just aligned the farthest hole from the end forward and punched a hole in the back of it. I have attached a picture of the cut off end of the belt. I think it distracts from the strap. No I do not know. Time will tell if it wears any differently than a full leather belt. I'm more worried about the clamping mechanism than the strap material. And sure enough, folks, the belt costs less than $20.
