Fits in old holes: porch and patio lights

The house I live in was built in the 1890's and has been converted to electricity for decades. So there are almost no junction boxes in the house and no fastenings inside. I walk slowly through the house, swapping and renovating room by room. Externally, the lighting connections are very simple. The hole that the wire will pass through and any screw holes needed to hold the bracket. The fittings I replaced lasted about 30 years and the ravages of time took their toll and I couldn't repair them anymore. Saw these while browsing, saw the base size to fit and ordered. There was no problem connecting them directly to the old 2-wire "sheathed" cable since the cable's outer sheath acts as a ground. The bases were attached directly to the wall with double-sided screws. Actually looked pretty close to the fixtures that have been there for so many years. I know I'll eventually have to replace the wiring for the outside lights, but that will happen when I'm done with the kitchen as all the new electrical wiring is routed to the second electrical box I installed, around the old box and wiring to bypass. .

Pros
  • Lighting and ceiling fans
Cons
  • Good, but not great
