When first connected to a Toshiba 3.5" SATA III hard drive, the 5V delivered through the USB 3.0 port was negligible or simply unreliable. This caused detection issues with Windows 10, resulting in the device becoming unusable. After using my own USB cable, the drive was accessible. was 70-110 MB/s (megabytes per second) with small dips on average over time. This is not a hot swap adapter and will destroy the device if attempted and the instructions are not very detailed. The drive is connected when the adapter is not powered. USB 3.0 port for 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives. When connecting to 3.5" drive, DC 12V/2A is required and should be connected to the adapter before the USB cable works. Connecting the USB cable turns on the adapter and then powers the hard drive. A 2.5" hard drive only requires a USB cable and 5V DC provided by the connector to spin up the drive and be recognized by the operating system. The physical strength of the device is fragile at best, be careful when plugging/unplugging the drive to avoid damaging the SATA/power connector. As a result, this is more for the average home user and won't last a busy IT department.
