While this did in fact come with instructions, they lacked the proper context needed to make assembly a whole easier. You will DEFINITELY need more than one tool to complete assembly. One tool to hold the head of the bolt still and in place, and another tool to do the actual tightening. I used a pair of pliers and a pair of vice grips because that's what I had on hand that worked for the process. I still don't know if those were the correct or best tools to use because that very vital information is missing from the directions. Also, I wasted almost as much time figuring out what tools worked, than I did assembling the rack. This made the process EXTREMELY frustrating for me. If you don't have a cache of tools, you'll probably have to go out and buy some just to assemble this rack. It would've been so much easier had the directions simply told you that you will need more than one tool, as it's impossible to use just one, and which tools are the best to use. It seems sturdy, but wood is heavy so I can't speak to how well it will hold up over time. The pieces do seem strong however.
