I used this to finish off a couple of my axes that were in dire need of sharpening. I also needed something to take to the field with me. I ended up using a Leakey washing machine first, which removed the roughness but failed to achieve the sharpness I wanted. I do this instead of line because it has a much finer grain and works like a charm. It's twice as thin as fishing line, so what. I think once I've sharpened at home I'll take that to the field. Costs money.
