I have two other good quality instruments but neither of them measure DC current. I bought this counter just for this purpose. While it "really" measures DC amps, it's difficult to use and gives erratic and inconsistent readings. When you switch it to the DC Amps setting, it provides instant readings even when you're not connected to the circuit. The instructions tell you to zero the display first (which isn't obvious), but even after that you're still getting erroneous readings until you connect it to the circuit with a clamp. At this point the measurements are wrong everywhere, which may or may not be accurate - I'm not sure. If you start the whole process again, you will get different results. I also compared the DC voltage readings to my other reliable meters. In the circuit I tested, my other two meters measured 13.00-13.01V. This one reads 12.84V (after I had to zero it back first). I just feel like I can't trust the results from this meter and I don't like constantly zeroing the meter before testing. I am returning this item.
