When I am sitting at my laptop in my living room, I can put a few drops of essential oil in the dip of the wood and it soaks in and I can smell it just fine. If I am in need of a pick me up, I use something with citrus or eucalyptus or even a blend to perk you up. I can smell the essential oil for hours. Of course, I am sitting about two feet from where it sits and it works fine for me. I like the natural wood for the oil to get absorbed. So far I have used only the light wood and I am pleased. If it were for a bigger area, I would consider getting several packs of these.

- Totally disappointed this did not work either as directed or as I expected. I do not recommend it
