Review on 🍝 KitchenAid KSMPEXTA Gourmet Pasta Press Attachment with 6 Versatile Pasta Plates, White by George Bell

Storage case NOT included but generally works well

Before purchasing this model I was wondering how it differed from the KitchenAid KPEXTA which is currently about $30 cheaper. I couldn't find anything about the differences other than what I could see in the photos. There was a noticeable difference in the way the cutter was attached and the shape and size of the screw on the retaining ring for the "noodle plates" so I figured they made some design changes and that's the only reason I'm seeing was the percentage of errors or complaints compared to the previous design. This is by no means a comparison and contrasting review of the two. I was a bit disappointed with what's in the box. KPEXTA comes with a plastic noodle sheet storage container that attaches to the top of the storage unit; KSMPEXTA not. The KSMPEXTA description clearly states that "The pasta press and all its parts are neatly organized in their own storage box for easy access at all times.” Case of any kind with this device. While not an indicator, this is a pretty low expectation of quality and if you don't use the box it came in for storage you run the risk of losing some or all of your pasta sheets. I've used it a few times since buying it and it's a pretty well built device that does the job as expected. I use 100 grams of all-purpose flour per egg (usually batch size is 2-4 eggs) and let it sit for half an hour after the first kneading. Then I form it into a long snake of dough about 2" in diameter and cut it into 2" long pieces. When you're done, the KitchenAid and pasta will be pressed against the rest. I would like to see plates for other types of pasta; Fettuccine or Reginette would be doable in this format, but I'll get myself a lasagna roll at some point in the future to make it work. However, a star, wheel dish, and other unusual shapes would be fun as a set of pasta plates.
