Overall this lens performs well and I think it's worth the money, if not perfect. Here are some of the key features of the lens: Mechanics/body: Very high quality metal with little plastic, very smooth zoom and auto-clutch focus control. This lens is smoother than all Zeiss lenses in this regard and has 3 focus hold buttons instead of the usual ones. One really nice thing about this lens is that the zoom is entirely internal, so it doesn't extend to ridiculous lengths like most telephoto lenses. Of course, as an expensive lens, it doesn't turn the front thread when focusing, which ruins the filter settings. I really hate the texture that Sony uses for the zoom/focus button as it picks up dirt very easily and then looks ugly, although it works quite well as a grippy surface. The white color used on this lens looks very nice and better than the uglier white color on Canon L lenses, but it also makes the expensive lens stand out making it more likely to be stolen. What worries me the most, though, is the lens hood: unlike CZ lenses, which have a nice petal-shaped metal hood with a plastic ring to attach it to, this hood is very cheap, flimsy plastic all around. It does have felt lines and a good filter adjustment slot, but overall it's cheap compared to the build quality of other pro lenses. Optical quality: Overall, this lens is very sharp above F2.8 where it's wide open. a little softer, but still produces good images. Unfortunately, this reduced resolution cannot be corrected in programs like Lightroom, unlike other shortcomings such as slight distortions and vignetting. This lens also has a minor chromatic aberration issue, particularly in the corners, which doesn't improve with an aperture. Overall, this isn't a huge issue as it's easy to fix with software and doesn't look bad compared to other lenses like Sony's 75-300 beer lenses. I've read reviews online claiming that this lens has poor bokeh quality, but that's not my experience as it seems to produce very nice creamy areas out of focus. The ghosting and flare control seems to be the same as other Sony lenses, which isn't that good, well I guess you're paying for all those elements of the lens. I did not test this lens for coma. All in all, this is a great lens, but only if you need the quick focusing and extra stops provided by the constant F2.8 aperture. If not, you might be better off with the 70-300g which is 2 stops slower but smaller, cheaper and has a longer range. In this price range you can also buy the 70-400 which is also a great lens albeit 2 stops slower, slightly cheaper and twice the focal length (but also has a terrible silver finish and pops out a lot during firing). zooming).
