These are great socks. I wear adult female size 4.5 shoes, and the Large fit perfectly. They are very soft and cushy, but not bulky and not scratchy. They are thicker than a dress sock, but less than a crew sock. I can comfortably wear them with any shoe. I wash and air dry, but the pair that accidentally went into the dryer did not shrink. These are ankle socks, not calf socks, with good stretch. I liked them so much I ordered another set. Some have commented that both socks are marked "L". Mine are too, but I think that stands for Large, not Left. I recommend.
