We've only used it three times, so I can't comment on its durability. Yes, it's thin, but it does exactly what it's supposed to do and its flexibility makes it easier to fold and pack, although "lighter" is a relative term. It's big enough that if there's a picnic table, you can actually stand on it and try to shake and fold it. And while two people can easily handle this, I almost always pack it alone, so if I had to do it all over again I'd buy two smaller rugs. I'm an average height woman in my 50's, not too strong and I can do it but this is PITA.
