TO UPDATE. There's a better option: Pro Model 1052

Drain pumps are used in harsh conditions. I have found that many pumps use stainless steel fasteners to hold the housings or switch housings together. As long as the pump is ok. If water gets into the electrical wiring, it's done. This is a solid pump and I think it has been upgraded in this model to use stainless steel fasteners in the switch housing to minimize that last weak point. If a drain pump has a life expectancy that depends on the severity of the application, this pump will exceed your expectations and last much longer than its competitors. To update. 8-10-21 This pump failed catastrophically after 3 1/2 years. At the same time, all my expectations for fasteners were justified. the elastomer around the switch lever appears to have failed and water has entered the switch housing. I spoke to Zoeller Customer Service about a drain pump that predictably failed every 3 years and they were not surprised. Real release, he explained, was a matter of cycles to failure. Putting this in a small active sump will wear it out faster than putting it in a large sump that stays relatively dry. In my case this is not a suitable pump for a 24" sump with a small but constant flow. Unfortunately for me this is a typical design for a residential basement cesspool. I give this pump 2 stars. This must last longer than 3 years and Zoeller must inform the customer what the installation limits are for the device that the customer relies on to prevent flooding of the basement. BE SHAME about it. So what to do? Answer: Zoeller has a 1/3 drain pump that is similar in size to the M-57 but has been tested to 1,000,000 cycles and is built to withstand the rigors of an active sump. Model #1052-0005 of the Pro Contractor Series. This is the pump I installed when my last M-57 broke down.
