I cry every time I read this. I stumbled across this while looking for things to buy in honor of a special Beagle, Buddy, who I will soon have to give up due to prostate cancer and the intense pain it causes as the cancer grows and grows. This is the hardest way to lose a dog as the pain escalates over time and cannot be stopped. How do I know he's ready to let go? I hope he tells me. I will read this often because it fits so well with our relationship. I rescued him from a mall parking lot 11 years ago. He sealed his fate that day by giving me a HUGE kiss on the cheek after I gave him a can of Alpo. He was starving, he had adult heartworms in his heart, he didn't get treatment, he had a broken tail that he couldn't wag or lift, but he got through it all and I know he's happy and grateful for life what he had is. I am grateful to have met him and for the MANY things he taught me about dogs.
