Although this brush feels more durable than my old badger hair brush (no shedding) and quite soft, it doesn't hold water or suds. The fake hair appears to be straight unlike natural hair which has a barb that prevents water from running down the shaft meaning water runs down my arm when shaving soap is applied. Although I could apply shaving soap, I couldn't lather. So far my best fix has been to leave the soap on the bristles, which shouldn't damage them, and let them dry between soaps. Then add some water to just the soap, soften the brush by bending the bristles but don't add water, and then lather the ends of the bristles. This will save you soap in the long run, and this method should also allow less soapy water to run down your hand.
