Review on Panasonic PV-V4540: Enhanced 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR for Superior Video Playback by Bernardino Suazo

Overall this is a good and reliable VCR. There are a few design cues that the manufacturer should have considered before shipping. While watching a movie, "Play" will appear on the display. I personally like to keep track of the time when watching a movie and have to press the display button to get the time. Movies play well, although I seem to hear it more than I did with my last VCR (quiet hmmmm). And the remote! Don't get me started on the remote control! As others have reported, tiny buttons and odd placement. But like any new device, you turn it on and sooner or later, if you spend enough time with it, you'll be able to hit the buttons in the dark! Good clear picture in FF and REW. While ad skipping sounds like a cool feature, it's a bit confusing. Panasonic had to do additional road testing with dedicated moviegoers/VCRs to refine the design.
