To be honest, I bought this shaving mug because everything else in my bathroom is silver chrome (including the soap dispenser, razor stand, toothbrush holder, etc.) and not because I had high hopes of it keeping my shaving soap warm. The mug is great for mixing foam (wide and deep) and I get good foam with it every morning. On the other hand, you'll need a bowl or basin to fill with hot water and a mug if you want the shaving soap to stay warm between runs. I've been using this mug for a few months now (as of January 15th) and haven't had any issues with rusting or staining (I just dry it thoroughly after each use).
