This unit, when connected to my HP Pavilion laptop, does exactly what I wanted it to do: it converts VGA to VGA to -Composite/S-Video converter out for years and whatnot for my defiantly non-HDMI TV. And I need an audio output: Pavilion disables its own headphone output (as well as its own speakers) when an HDMI cable is plugged in. I tried this with a Roku 3 but the screen froze during activation (which never completed) even when I used a 2.1A 5V USB charger to power the device take care of. Maybe that particular Roku 3 was defective. Please note that most of the advertising emphasizes that it needs to be connected to a computer and not a TV. And it works really well with a computer.
