So. I originally bought this tripod to use to attach my phone to various things to take pictures BUT. Recently I saw that we will have a small window of good conditions in Acadia National Park. I quickly grabbed my camera gear, threw it in my car and sped into the park (4 hour drive). When I got there, the sun was already setting and the clouds/fog should be gathering in about an hour. So. I quickly rushed to my favorite photo spots (including Thunder Hole and Bass Harbor Lighthouse). I jumped out of the car and got my camera. Waiting. WHERE'S MY HUGE, HEAVY TRIPOD?!?! Apparently I left my tripod by the door as I frantically threw everything in the car. BUT. I already had this little guy in my car so I decided to try it out with my DSLR and lo and behold. and to my great amazement. IT WORKS OUT! It actually held my camera securely (including the large lens) and didn't suffer from the drag-and-drop effect that most ball tripods have (in the sense that it sags over time and completely ruins astrophotographic footage). This allowed me to get a 30 second exposure to capture the Milky Way at Thunder Hole and the eerie red light from the Bass Harbor Lighthouse (I was hoping to capture the Milky Way beyond the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, but the fog had already thickened ). then - I still think it's cool ). This tripod saved me completely. Without this thing, the trip would be utterly useless. Honestly I'm amazed at how well it worked and now I don't leave without it! I still carry a large tripod with me, but this is my backup tripod. In addition, this tripod wraps very well around branches, poles, etc, which allows me to get pretty unique angles in some cases. Anyway, I just had to share this story and my experience with this extremely cool little tripod that saved my loot on this trip. . I've attached some photos from the trip so you can see what I missed :) That came in handy for the sunrise over Cadillac Mountain the next morning too!
