It really sucks. First, it's such a good thermometer. Easy to use, easy to read, only one button (to use frequently). So he ticks all the boxes, "I THOUGHT". Problem is I put it in my travel bag with all my BBQ stuff. There is no cover for the dipstick. It's just an accident that has to happen. It will pierce something else or bend into a gap. So I bought another one that folds like a pocket knife. So this one (the one in this review) is GREAT for putting in a desk drawer. But there is no cover for it yet. So I don't know.
