We have the Model 3 with a tinted glass roof. Summer in California with a glass roof is very hot. Previously, we conducted a study analyzing spacecraft cockpit heat. The study suggests that it must reflect or isolate the heat source before it enters the vehicle structure, otherwise the entire vehicle will heat up. Glass tinting on our M3 is the case that the film is on the inside of the car, it does filter out the radiant heat into the passenger compartment but the heat is concentrated near the glass. When exposed to the sun for a long time, the glass gets very hot and radiates heat. This umbrella has a silver outer layer. It actually reflects part of the radiation. Only 3 layers of fabric. It becomes a very good thermal insulator for glass radiant heat. Best of all, it can be removed (albeit not so easily) on cool days to enjoy the view of the glass roof. On our M3 with tinted windows we see nothing but the sun. I ended up buying a similar set of roof windows for my M3 and thought about removing the tint. Please note that this review applies to all similar products, not just this one.
