The amount of people loving these headphones was really overwhelming so I wanted to try them out before settling on a nice set of custom IEMs to see if they're any better than mine SE215 . They weren't. Out of the box these things were insanely bright and sounded to me. I tried them with my stock headphones: 1) Apple AirPods, 2) Shure SE215, and 3) Audio Technica ATH-M50X. KZ were definitely the clearest of them all, but that's not always a good thing. To me they just sounded harsh and aggressive in the highs and too boomy in the lows. They just sounded. out. Of course driver burn-in is an important factor and I got over 100 hours of listening time on each pair of headphones I compared them to so the drivers in all my other sets would be good and burned in. I could get used to the sound of these monitors if it wasn't for the fit. Oh right. Maybe I just have oddly small ear canals, but these things were just uncomfortable. Even with the smallest rubber earbuds, they sounded bad to my ears, and the monitor funnel that the earbud attaches to seems too long. I was afraid to push them further into my ear because it might damage the eardrum. Definitely wanted to love because a lot of people recommend their great sound for the price but they weren't 100% for me.
