Good camcorder for home use

First of all if there was a 3.5 star rating I would rate this camcorder that way. I like the camcorder, but there are downsides. I've used it quite a bit since I got it and it works well for most home projects like recording family gatherings. I'll tell you how I feel about it. "Look and feel, as one reviewer said, this camcorder is very light and looks like cheap plastic. It's like I could crush it, but I'm just holding on too tight. Every time I open the screen I'm afraid I'll rip it off. I understand I have fairly large hands and fingers, but this one is so small it's easy to break. Also, watch out for my hands: I can find it a bit difficult to operate the buttons without constantly changing how I'm holding the camcorder. However, this may only be a problem for me. I like that the lens cap is built in with a switch on the front. User Interface I personally don't like touch screens on cameras/camcorders. However, most of the necessary functions can also be controlled without using it, so this is not a big problem. The screen is bright and easy to read, and I like that the information presented on the screen is minimal. Menu navigation was a problem for me, I often got it wrong in what I was trying to do. This was especially true when viewing videos on my TV. It's much easier to use an SD card and a computer. Also, I don't like that the camcorder's video and audio are output via HDMI in standby mode. This gives feedback as soon as you turn on the TV. Anyway, I don't see any practical use for such a feature. Video The quality of a video is highly dependent on the scene you are recording. Bright outdoor scenes come out fairly clean, while darker indoor scenes have some noise. However, this is to be expected from a camcorder in this price range. Even on the highest quality setting, videos aren't what most people would consider "high quality." Again, for the price, this is about what is expected. You can watch videos directly from the camcorder via HDMI or transfer them to a PC. I use an SD card so I just took it out and put it in my computer. Verdict: If you want to record decent quality home videos, this camcorder is for you. However, if you plan to create higher quality videos for the web or movies, you might want to look for something more expensive.
