I have been using gentian violet as a stoma replacement for over 20 years. It's an old-school anti-infective topical liquid. regular 1 ounce bottles are hard to find and quite expensive ($4-$5). After extensive research, I found that the gentian violet used as a dye in labs is the same as the gentian violet I use. I saved over $100 by purchasing a 32 ounce bottle for $35. I also have enough for a year. Caution: If you have never used gentian violet, be aware that it will stain everything it comes in contact with, including porcelain, wood, painted surfaces, skin and clothing. it can also end up in unexpected places: I've seen it in my freezer. I have no idea how this happened as I wash my hands very thoroughly after changing devices even though I wear gloves.
